Keynote on “Smart City Challenge” Grant by City of Columbus, Deputy Director of Public Services
Dublin, Ohio, November 3, 2016 – The Japan-America Society of Central Ohio (JASCO) partners with the City of Dublin to host its annual Economic Business Seminar on November 15th, 2016. This year’s seminar, titled “Investing in Innovation, Research and Development,” will take place at Dublin Community Recreation Center (5600 Post Road, Dublin, OH 43017) from 5:30PM to 8:00PM. JASCO is pleased to announce that Mr. Mitsuhiro Wada, Consul General of Japan in Detroit, will give remarks on the topic as well as the Ohio-Japan economic relation as a guest speaker. Japanese simultaneous translation will be provided.
The seminar will explore the future of central Ohio’s emerging R&D industry with distinguished experts, including:
- Aparna Dial (Keynote), Deputy Director, Department of Public Service, City of Columbus Program
- Matt McCollister, Senior Vice President of Economic Development, Columbus 2020
The keynote speech will focus on the $50 million “Smart City Challenge” grant that was recently awarded to the City of Columbus from the U.S. Department of Transportation and Vulcan Inc. The Smart Columbus project, led by Dial, aims to develop the city into the nation’s proving ground for intelligent mobility systems through various technological innovations such as self-driving vehicles. Smart Columbus partners with many companies and organizations including JASCO members AEP, OSU and Honda. The seminar will be concluded with a panel discussion/Q&A moderated by Jeremiah Gracia, Economic Development Administrator at City of Dublin Economic Development. The panel featuring the experts will address issues and topics regarding the industry and innovation, including “the US 33 Smart Mobility Corridor,” a $5.9 million grant awarded to the City of Dublin, the City of Marysville and Union County.
A reception featuring Akai Hana restaurant’s Sushi and hors d’oeuvre buffet will precede the seminar. Admission is $10 for JASCO members and $15 for non-members.
