Improvements are underway following the approval of the first applications of the Commercial Façade Improvement Program. New this year, the Façade Program seeks to encourage private investment into the commercial building exteriors and publicly used amenities found around Historic Dublin and aims to improve the exterior appearance and vibrancy of the City’s core. To accomplish this, the City offers grants to property owners or tenants to undergo such construction up to $15,000 for projects with a total cost of at least $30,000. Smaller projects are also eligible for the program down to a $5,000 match.
After an application process, City Council approved two projects.
The property at 113 South High Street will undergo the bigger of the two renovations and will focus on three main areas, including paving the gravel parking lot in the back of the property. This will add seven parking spots and improve the view of the property. A walking path will connect the front of the property and the new parking lot, giving citizens easy access from South High Street to Mill Lane. The final touch on this project calls for replacing the roof. The new roof will accent the rustic features of the property and add to the character of Historic Dublin.
At 53 North High Street, the primary focus of the improvements will be on the concrete walkways that line North Street and the entrance to the property. The concrete surfaces will be replaced by the same brick pavers as those along High Street and most of the Historic District. This will help improve aesthetics and create continuity with the surrounding area.
Both of the applications brought before the committee were approved, with the combined investment coming to $25,000 provided by the Façade grants. Council members agreed the projects will add to the character and aesthetics in the Historic District and will help usher in future investment projects in the area.
