If you’ve lived in Central Ohio for a while, you’ve probably experienced a Roto design without even knowing it.
The team that designed and built fan-favorite exhibits at COSI (like Ocean, Progress, and Adventure!) eventually branched off to form their own firm: Roto.
Since 2004, the company has been operating out of Dublin, building high-tech, hands-on worlds for museums and theme parks all around the world. Today, they are the largest design-build firm for interactive exhibits in North America.
While they work with high-end tech like AR, VR, and gesture-based media, their core goal hasn’t changed since those early COSI days. (Yep, they also worked within the original location there!)
“We’re known for creating hands-on interactives that create genuine human connection in the built space,” Roto Marketing Director Rachel Escusa said. “Sure, we want to create fun, we want to create opportunities to take away STEM or STEAM learnings, but we’re also looking to create opportunities for moments of connection, whether it’s between the caregiver and the child… or the visitor and the content.”
Roto lives in Dublin, featuring 60,000 square feet of total office space. This includes a 40,000-square-foot production studio packed with welding gear, woodworking tools, CNC machines, and paint bays.
Bottom line: It’s where they build the BIG stuff.
“You need a lot of space in order to build a two-story tornado,” Escusa said.
