Connor Moss, a 21-year-old from Pittsburgh and a senior at Kenyon College, found a great internship with Infoverity in Dublin for summer 2024. The challenge was he didn’t own a car to get to and from his job. The solution was the Dublin Connector.
The Dublin Connector is a free transportation service for Dublin residents over the age of 55, residents with disabilities or anyone working in Dublin. The Dublin Connector provides necessary transportation options for Dublin’s workforce and will pick up and drop off to any Dublin location. It offers door-to-door service, benefitting both employees and local businesses.
“When I was researching transportation methods in Dublin, I thought the Dublin Connector being so accessible was too good to be true,” said Connor.
Faced with transportation challenges that accommodated his needs without a car, Connor explored various bus routes but found none quite as accessible or convenient as the Dublin Connector. With the routes he found, he could either spend 40 minutes walking to and from a bus stop or navigate multiple bus rides just to arrive to work. With assistance from J.M. Rayburn, a planner with the City’s Transportation & Mobility Division, he was able to easily set up his account and map out his route.
“From the beginning, J.M. helped me set up my account and walked me through my route from my pickup spot to my drop-off location. I am extremely grateful that City of Dublin employees and the shuttle drivers foster a welcoming and strong sense of community,” said Connor.
The Dublin Connector has a positive impact on its community members and contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing the number of single-occupancy vehicles on the road. Reducing private car usage decreases greenhouse gas emissions, reduces accident rates, alleviates traffic congestion and minimizes the wear and tear on public infrastructure, which reduces the need for repairs.
The Dublin Connector offers wheelchair accessibility, professional drivers and sanitized vehicles. The scheduling process is simple with the SHARE Mobility app. Connor believes it is important to spread the word about the Dublin Connector so that other workforce members can take advantage of its numerous benefits. In 2023 alone, the Dublin Connector provided 11,818 rides, saving 9.857 pounds in carbon emissions.
“Why wouldn’t you recommend this service to others in the community? It not only saves time but avoids long walks to distant bus stops or carrying groceries. If it was not for the Dublin Connector, I would’ve had to do more planning and become more innovative with my ride to work. The accessibility simplified my daily commute,” said Connor.
Beyond Connor’s story, the Dublin Connector exemplifies Dublin’s commitment to inclusivity and accessibility. Its tailored services cater to residents with disabilities, individuals over 55, and the broader working community, offering a reliable, eco-friendly mode of transportation.
The Dublin Connector program is sponsored by the City of Dublin and operated by SHARE Mobility. To utilize this service, create a SHARE Mobility account. Trips must be booked at least two hours in advance and can be booked through the SHARE Mobility app, the Dublin Connector website or by calling 833.742.7333.
